Social Security Reform to the Gen X and beyond.

AARP has begun the assault on the President's plan to privitize part of Social Security. They tell us that the SSA says that it goes bankrupt in 2042 (CBO in 2052) and it is not a critical item to fix at this time. I disagree wholeheartedly. Now, while we can and are not paying out more than we are taking in, is the perfect time to fix it. In 2042, I will be 71 and if there was SS, I would in theory collect on it. I don't expect to. It would be nice if I could sock some of the money being pilfered from my check (that 6.4% that I don't get a choice on) would be put somewhere that I can actually get when I want to retire.

Let's fix the government before the baby boomers completely run it into the ground.

  • With the average life expectancy, you will likely receive more out of the system than what you paid in. However, if you read your annual summary of benefits, it tells you that it is based on current law and may be changed at any time.

This is part of the problem. The size of government has grown larger than the original founders of our country ever imagined. Even the president that brought in SS (FDR) envisioned that in the 60's we would have to privatize it. Our representatives main goal is to get themselves reelected and almost never vote to cut the size of government. 2.6 Trillion Dollars is unfathomable and many of the "government programs" have usurped the states rights and responsibilities and giveaways to several interests, whether it is businesses or voting blocks.
